About the Role

Lokalise is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join its Integration domain.

The mission of this team is ambitious: to build one of the industry’s most scalable and dependable integrations platforms, allowing seamless data exchange between Lokalise and the many tools customers use every day—from code repositories and design platforms to CMS systems and other product workflows.

This role is not simply about building connectors.

It’s about architecting the platform layer that makes customer workflows feel effortless while also making internal engineering systems more reliable, elegant, and efficient.

As a senior member of the team, you will be more than an individual contributor. You’ll be expected to set technical standards, influence architecture, elevate engineering quality, and help shape a world-class backend environment.

What You’ll Do

Architect and Own

Take the lead in designing, building, and owning the long-term evolution of Lokalise’s core integrations platform and supporting services.

You’ll be expected to make thoughtful trade-offs between:

• Speed of delivery
• System reliability
• Long-term maintainability

Think Beyond the Code

Understand not just the technical implementation, but also the customer workflows and business outcomes behind the systems you build.

Every technical decision should be grounded in a clear understanding of:

• Why it matters
• What user problem it solves
• How it contributes to product value

Improve the Engineering System

Help improve the entire software delivery lifecycle by driving practices that create smoother, more automated paths to production.

This includes contributing to:

• Better deployment workflows
• Stronger engineering feedback loops
• Delivery performance improvements using measurable data such as:
  • DORA metrics

Elevate the Team

Act as a force multiplier for the engineering organization.

You’ll help raise the quality bar through:

• Thoughtful code reviews
• Mentorship
• Knowledge sharing
• Technical guidance
• Encouraging strong engineering habits and craftsmanship

Lead in AI-Powered Development

Play a leadership role in adopting and refining AI-assisted development workflows within the team.

This means:

• Using AI development tools effectively
• Discovering better workflows
• Sharing best practices with the team
• Helping accelerate engineering productivity across the organization

Required Qualifications

Lokalise is looking for a highly experienced backend engineer with strong systems thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to operate across a mixed technical stack.

Deep Backend Experience

• 7+ years of experience building and operating complex backend systems
• Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Node.js
  • PHP
• Comfort working across both:
  • Modern services / microservices
  • A legacy or existing PHP monolith

Integrations Domain Expertise

You should have a proven background in the integrations space and understand the architectural patterns that make integrations reliable and scalable.

This includes experience with:

• Webhooks
• Polling
• Message queues
• Event-driven architectures
• API versioning
• Multi-tenant platform design

Systems Thinking

Strong understanding of modern backend building blocks, including:

• API design best practices
• Message queue systems such as:
  • RabbitMQ
  • AWS SNS/SQS
  • Or similar tools
• Relational databases such as:
  • PostgreSQL
  • Or similar systems
• Cloud infrastructure such as:
  • AWS
  • Or equivalent platforms

Strong Technical Judgment

You treat decision-making as an engineering discipline.

You should be comfortable leading or contributing to:

• Technical research
• Prototyping / Proofs of Concept (PoCs)
• Written technical debates
• Design documents such as:
  • RFCs
  • ADRs

The expectation is not just speed—it’s thoughtful, well-reasoned execution.

• Open-source contributions or maintenance experience
• Familiarity with the localization or translation technology space
• Understanding of the unique technical challenges involved in localization platforms
