About the Role

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to join our team on a part-time remote basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong experience in enterprise COBOL development, mainframe systems, and legacy application support.

You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving COBOL-based applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable technical solutions, and helping optimize performance across existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a COBOL Developer, you will:

Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL-based applications in line with business requirements and industry best practices
Collaborate with business analysts and other developers to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions
Conduct detailed code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure high quality, reliability, and performance
Identify and resolve issues within existing COBOL programs to improve system efficiency and user experience
Document new and updated:
- Processes
- Workflows
- System changes
- Technical procedures
Participate actively in team meetings, providing:
- Technical insights
- Progress updates
- Recommendations for improvement
Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes, standards, and best practices

Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

Hands-on experience in COBOL development within enterprise environments
Strong knowledge of COBOL programming, including:
- Structured coding practices
- Debugging techniques
- Maintenance of legacy systems
Experience working with mainframe environments and legacy system integrations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to clearly explain complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong technical documentation skills, with the ability to write clear and concise system/process documentation
