About Oyster
Oyster is quietly engineering the connective intelligence behind Africa’s skincare ecosystem. At its core lies a fusion of computer vision, machine learning, and modern commerce infrastructure—stitched together to redefine how skincare products are discovered, recommended, and ultimately purchased.
But Oyster does not stop at digital storefronts. Its ecosystem extends into:
- AI-driven skin diagnostics leveraged by retailers and clinics
- Precision-based recommendation engines that deepen engagement and conversion
- Oyster Clinic, a full-spectrum management suite handling consultations, workflows, and operational cadence
- Headless commerce frameworks powered by Magento and React
- Oyster Window, a modular AI layer that embeds seamlessly into external platforms like Shopify and custom-built systems
Positioned at the confluence of artificial intelligence, retail infrastructure, and dermatological care, Oyster is tackling a distinctly African challenge—making skincare intelligent, accessible, and deeply personalized at scale.
Job Overview
This is not a conventional support function dressed in technical clothing.
As a Field Support Engineer, you become the operational nerve center within a flagship retail partner’s Abuja location. You are the embedded technical authority—the one who sees friction before it escalates, translates confusion into clarity, and transforms real-world bottlenecks into product evolution.
Though stationed physically with the client, your alignment remains deeply rooted within Oyster’s engineering fabric—participating in standups, contributing to system-level conversations, and collaborating fluidly with backend, frontend, and machine learning teams.
You are not external support. You are Oyster—on the ground.
What You’ll Drive
- Assume first-line technical ownership of all systems deployed at the client site—from storefront interfaces to backend integrations and AI-driven features
- Diagnose and resolve issues in real time, navigating across frontend layers, backend logic, APIs, and infrastructure components
- Escalate complex issues with precision—articulating reproducible steps, logs, and contextual business impact
- Lead migration efforts from legacy systems into Oyster’s ecosystem, ensuring minimal disruption and smooth adoption
- Partner with product and engineering teams to shape features grounded in actual usage patterns, not theoretical assumptions
- Observe operational workflows—checkout flows, inventory handling, CRM touchpoints—and identify areas ripe for optimization
- Convert business friction into structured, actionable engineering tasks
- Monitor system vitality through logs, metrics, and anomaly detection, flagging risks before they crystallize
- Deploy incremental fixes and enhancements where feasible
- Serve as the trusted technical liaison for client stakeholders
Required Expertise
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience supporting and deploying production-grade systems
- Strong command of PHP, particularly within Laravel environments
- Readiness to engage with Magento (modules, GraphQL, admin-level customization)
- Working familiarity with React debugging (network inspection, state flow, API tracing)
- Solid grasp of REST and GraphQL APIs, with the ability to trace requests end-to-end
- Competence in SQL/Postgres for investigative querying on live datasets
- Exposure to CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar pipelines)
- Clear, adaptable communication—able to navigate both technical deep-dives and business-level conversations
- Must be Abuja-based and available for consistent on-site presence
Additional Edge
- Prior experience working directly with Magento ecosystems
- Exposure to headless commerce architectures
- Familiarity with Linux environments and log-level diagnostics
- Background within e-commerce or skincare/beauty sectors
- Experience in customer-facing technical roles or technical account management
Why This Role Stands Out
- You operate at the friction point where product meets reality—your observations shape what gets built next
- You witness the full lifecycle: issue discovery → engineering dialogue → deployment → measurable impact
- High autonomy paired with direct access to engineering and product leadership
- Your input is not filtered—it directly informs how Oyster evolves across retail environments
- Opportunity to influence how enterprise-grade deployments scale across Africa
