About the Role
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to join our team on a part-time remote basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong experience in enterprise COBOL development, mainframe systems, and legacy application support.
You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving COBOL-based applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable technical solutions, and helping optimize performance across existing systems.

Key Responsibilities
As a COBOL Developer, you will:
- Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL-based applications in line with business requirements and industry best practices
- Collaborate with business analysts and other developers to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions
- Conduct detailed code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure high quality, reliability, and performance
- Identify and resolve issues within existing COBOL programs to improve system efficiency and user experience
- Document new and updated:
- Processes
- Workflows
- System changes
- Technical procedures
- Participate actively in team meetings, providing:
- Technical insights
- Progress updates
- Recommendations for improvement
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes, standards, and best practices
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- Hands-on experience in COBOL development within enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of COBOL programming, including:
- Structured coding practices
- Debugging techniques
- Maintenance of legacy systems
- Experience working with mainframe environments and legacy system integrations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to clearly explain complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong technical documentation skills, with the ability to write clear and concise system/process documentation
- Proven ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional team
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Self-motivation and a strong sense of ownership in delivering quality solutions
