About the Job
We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer to join our team and help build the next generation of privacy-first products.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and users, developing and maintaining server-side logic, defining and maintaining core databases, and ensuring strong performance and responsiveness for frontend requests.
You’ll also work closely with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements into the application, so a basic understanding of frontend technologies is important.

Key Responsibilities
As a Backend Developer, you will:
- Develop and maintain server-side logic to ensure high performance and responsiveness
- Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with backend systems
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
- Design and optimize:
- Database schemas
- Queries
- Indexes
- Implement security and data protection measures
- Develop and deploy RESTful APIs to support frontend functionality
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software
- Conduct unit testing and optimize backend performance
- Participate in the full application lifecycle, with a strong focus on coding and debugging
- Work with team members to determine best practices and meet client requirements
- Stay up to date with current best practices, emerging technologies, and frameworks
- Document:
- Development processes
- Coding guidelines
- Technical best practices
- Provide training and support to junior developers
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Supervisory Responsibility: This role does not include direct people management.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Backend Developer or in a similar role
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as:
- Java
- Python
- Ruby
- PHP
- Experience with databases such as:
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- MongoDB
- Or similar technologies
- Experience working with:
- Servers
- Network environments
- Hosting environments
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and web services
- Strong knowledge of security and data protection practices
- Solid understanding of the web development lifecycle, programming techniques, and development tools
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Good understanding of frontend technologies for smooth integration, including:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Must have valid US identification for full-time employment (FTE) roles
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following experience will stand out:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as:
- AWS
- Google Cloud
- Azure
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as:
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD practices
- Knowledge of microservices architecture
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- Experience with Git or similar version control systems
