About the Job
A Government Department is seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join a brand-new AI-focused project within a DDaT (Digital, Data and Technology) and Agile environment.
This role is ideal for a data professional with prior experience working in Central Government or Public Sector settings, especially within GDS/DDaT-style programmes.
The main objective of this role is to assess how data is currently being used across the department, identify opportunities to improve first-party data collection and analysis, and help shape a future-ready data strategy that supports smarter decision-making and future marketing efforts.
About the Project
This is a new AI-focused transformation initiative, and data analysis will play a key role in helping the department understand:
- How data is currently collected
- How data is being used today
- Where data quality or compliance issues exist
- How first-party data can be improved for future use
- What changes are needed to support more effective, ethical, and compliant data practices
This is a strategic and analytical role that combines:
- Data auditing
- Data mapping
- Privacy and ethics awareness
- Stakeholder engagement
- Future-state recommendations
Key Responsibilities
As the Data Analyst, you will be responsible for:
- Auditing the current use of data across the client environment
- Developing a future data strategy in collaboration with:
- Technical stakeholders
- Non-technical stakeholders
- Reviewing current:
- Data collection methods
- Data quality
- Data usage practices
- Assessing compliance with:
- GDPR
- Government data standards
- Mapping the AS-IS data collection and usage journey
- Applying statistical and analytical tools and techniques to understand current-state performance and issues
- Identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
- Applying core principles of:
- Data ethics
- Privacy
- Identifying and escalating data ethics and privacy risks through the appropriate channels
- Providing recommendations to improve:
- Data collection
- Data quality
- Data usage
- Identifying opportunities to increase the capture of compliant first-party data
- Supporting a future data approach aligned with AI and modern digital delivery practices
Required Experience & Skills
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Strong experience as a Data Analyst
- Previous experience working in:
- Central Government
- Public Sector
- Or similar regulated environments
- Experience in DDaT / GDS-style environments
- Experience working in Agile delivery teams
- Strong understanding of:
- Data auditing
- Data quality assessment
- Data mapping
- Data usage analysis
- Good knowledge of Python
- Ability to work with both:
- Technical stakeholders
- Non-technical stakeholders
- Understanding of:
- GDPR
- Government data standards
- Data privacy and ethics principles
