About the Job
Outserve is looking for a pragmatic, delivery-focused Full Stack Developer with a strong backend emphasis. While the role spans both frontend and backend development, most of your work will center on building robust server-side systems, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based infrastructure.
This is a role for someone who understands that modern “full stack” engineering often leans heavily toward backend complexity—without losing sight of the overall application experience.
You’ll work closely with another developer and engage directly with clients, translating real-world business needs into scalable technical solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and building backend services, APIs, and databases that power core applications
- Developing clean, secure, and maintainable code with a strong server-side focus
- Building integrations between platforms such as:
- Xero
- Amazon and other e-commerce platforms
- Inventory and ERP systems (e.g., Unleashed)
- Working with cloud infrastructure on:
- Amazon Web Services
- Microsoft Azure
- Supporting frontend development when needed to ensure seamless system integration
- Managing the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment and support
- Maintaining and improving live production systems
- Applying security best practices and supporting vulnerability assessments
- Using AI development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) as productivity multipliers
- Working in an agile environment with sprint-based delivery cycles
- Communicating directly with clients to gather requirements and explain technical solutions
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills
- Strong commercial experience in backend development (preferably Node.js + TypeScript)
- Experience building RESTful APIs and data integrations
- Knowledge of relational and/or non-relational databases
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
- Strong Git workflows and structured development practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to take ownership and work independently in a small team
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools responsibly and effectively
Desirable Skills
- Frontend experience with frameworks like React or similar
- Experience with e-commerce, accounting, or ERP ecosystems
- Exposure to secure or regulated development environments
- Experience supporting production systems in live environments
- Background in small, fast-moving engineering teams
