About the Opportunity
Design Panda is seeking a seasoned Shopify Web Developer with a sharp engineering instinct and a deep familiarity with the moving parts of modern e-commerce ecosystems.
This role stretches far beyond cosmetic storefront edits. The ideal candidate will architect, maintain, troubleshoot, and extend Shopify environments while orchestrating integrations across payment gateways, CRMs, analytics systems, marketing platforms, and external services.
You will operate at the intersection of commerce, infrastructure, and user experience—bridging technical precision with business functionality.
Job Overview
This is a highly hands-on engineering position centered around Shopify development and system integration. You’ll work on everything from storefront customization and API orchestration to production debugging and performance refinement.
The company is looking for someone capable of owning deliverables completely—from technical interpretation and implementation to QA, deployment, and post-launch stability.
Core Responsibilities
Shopify Development
- Build and maintain Shopify storefronts using Liquid-based customization
- Extend storefront functionality while preserving performance and usability
- Implement new features, optimize conversion flows, and elevate customer experience
- Diagnose and resolve theme conflicts, app-related issues, and production bugs
Third-Party Integrations
- Integrate Shopify with external platforms such as PayPal, CRMs, marketing suites, analytics tools, and subscription services
- Build and maintain API-driven integrations with dependable data synchronization
- Manage webhook workflows, authentication mechanisms, retries, rate limits, and error recovery processes
- Ensure stable communication between systems while minimizing operational friction
General Web Engineering
- Investigate and debug issues spanning frontend behavior, backend interactions, and third-party services
- Translate stakeholder requirements into structured technical execution
- Produce clear documentation covering integrations, deployment logic, and implementation details
Technical Requirements
Shopify Expertise
- Strong command of the Shopify ecosystem, including themes, apps, Shopify Admin, and Liquid templating
- Experience implementing custom storefront functionality and resolving app/theme incompatibilities
- Confident troubleshooting live production issues within Shopify environments
API & Integration Engineering
- Strong experience integrating external systems using REST APIs and webhooks
- Familiarity with authentication methods such as API keys and OAuth
- Skilled in request tracing, payload validation, logging, and root-cause debugging
Advanced Web Fundamentals
- Strong JavaScript knowledge and understanding of modern frontend development patterns
- Solid grasp of HTTP protocols, browser behavior, cookies, sessions, CORS, and performance optimization
- Comfortable navigating browser developer tools and debugging complex interactions
- Excellent communication abilities with a highly responsive and collaborative mindset
Nice-to-Have Experience
- WordPress development and familiarity with plugin/theme ecosystems
- React experience, particularly for modern frontend applications or embedded Shopify apps
- Exposure to integrations involving shipping systems, inventory management, subscription tooling, CRMs, or marketing automation platforms
