Job Overview
As a Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in building the foundation of a Human-Led AI Orchestration Layer. This position goes beyond traditional backend development—you’ll also take on infrastructure responsibilities, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, and production-ready.
From authentication systems to multi-tenant architecture and AI workflow orchestration, your work will directly power core platform capabilities. Every feature you build is expected to be robust, reliable, and ready to support real business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Development
- Design and develop scalable, high-performance API services
- Integrate Clerk authentication, including identity management, RBAC, token validation, and authorization
- Build and support backend systems for human-led AI workflows
- Implement secure multi-tenant architecture and session management
- Strengthen API security through best practices and system hardening
DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure
- Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure (Functions, App Services, AKS, Key Vault)
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or Bicep
- Set up monitoring, logging, and observability systems to ensure reliability
- Continuously optimize system performance, uptime, and cloud costs
Requirements
- Strong experience in Python backend development, particularly with FastAPI
- Hands-on experience integrating Clerk authentication (JWTs, RBAC, middleware)
- Proven experience with Azure DevOps pipelines
- Solid understanding of backend security concepts, including OAuth2, JWT, CORS/CSRF, and rate limiting
- Experience with Docker and containerized environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and managing multi-tenant SaaS architectures
- Familiarity with integrating AI/ML workflows into cloud-based applications
Work Structure & Benefits
This role offers a flexible working model, with a commitment ranging between 20–40 hours per week depending on workload and responsibilities. Performance is measured by outcomes—not hours logged.
Compensation is structured as a fixed monthly stipend, aligned with your level of ownership and contribution. As long as expectations are met and performance remains strong, compensation remains stable.
